Because boredom is common when exercising, switch up your routine each day. You won?t really want to exercise if you dread doing it, so finding new and interesting ways to exercise is a must. Keep your spirits up. If you lose interest in exercise and stop, you are going to lose your momentum. That will make it hard to get started again.

Treating yourself to something special when you hit an exercise milestone is a terrific idea and one that helps keep your enthusiasm high. The reward doesn?t have to be something really big. It can be something small, such as a small desert or a new pair of shoes. No matter what you choose, try to have fun. It is important to keep yourself motivated to meet your weight loss goals.

Who says a fitness regime can?t be exciting and even enjoyable? Having a good attitude and approaching your workouts the right way will increase your enjoyment of your exercise routine. Use these ideas to improve your mindset and start on your path to success.

Forecasters: Sandy 'one for record books'

?

Hurricane Sandy is forecasted to hit the East Coast, but as NBC's Al Roker explains, the storm may also pack a punch for many inland areas.

By NBC News staff

As Hurricane Sandy barrels toward the East Coast, forecasters?warn it?s threatening to be one of the worst storms to hit the Northeast in decades.

The storm?already killed more than 40 people in the Caribbean. Officials all along the Eastern Seaboard have declared states of emergency and meteorologists have warned residents ? both coastal and inland ? to prepare for gale-force winds, chances of flooding, heavy rain, power outages and even snow.

Here?s a look at what some weather forecasters?predict.

Al Roker, chief meteorologist for NBC's TODAY Show

?Sandy is now back up to hurricane strengths with winds now up to 75 miles per hour. As we?ve seen already, it has caused massive destruction in its path. This one looks like it?s going to be one for the record books. It?s threatening to be one of the worst storms to hit the Northeast in decades. States of emergency have already been declared across five states and D.C., and in Norfolk, Va., the Navy is sending their ships out to sea as a precautionary measure.?

The Weather Channel

Carl Parker, hurricane specialist on?The Weather Channel

"We?re really concerned about the?water level rise. Because of the size of the system has everything to do with that potential for water-level rise. When you think about (Hurricane) Charlie, for example, it was a very powerful storm; it was a very small storm, so it wasn?t blowing water over a very large section of ocean. But this storm is going to be blowing water over a huge area ? hundreds of miles ? and that?s why it?s going to really pile up the water, and why the surge could be devastating?when it finally comes on shore."

?You can see the storm moving further southward more toward south Jersey so in this case again we are piling up the water as early as late tomorrow, coming up here toward the coast of New Jersey, and towards Long Island and then as the storm moves into New Jersey we see that maximum water level rise occurring just north of the area of low pressure, and that could have serious, potentially huge impact in New York City, in particular, because of the surge potential there, so that would maximize the surge around Long Island and then down and across the Jersey Shore.?

Don Morelli, meteorologist with WSI, a sister company of The Weather Channel

"They?ve had quite a bit of time to prepare for this, that?s the good side of this, they have been able to trim some branches from over wires and maybe try to minimize the power outages. But still, we are talking about a wind shield with severity of several hundred miles, so we are looking for widespread power outages in?the New England area from southern Maine to central Connecticut and from areas in interior New York to the mid-Atlantic region."

Serious Sandy targets East Coast

"After the fact with all this rain and blustery wind after the main storm center comes in on Monday, Tuesday the root system of these trees are very, very loose so it won?t take much to knock off trees even after the storm makes inland so this isn?t just for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, for the mid-Atlantic region, could even go in to mid-week, and then we are talking you know maybe a week or two of power outages for wide spread areas."

"The criteria for closing an airport is around 58, 60 miles an hour, which is easily going to be reach for much of the major hubs from D.C.? Northward to New York city and even into Logan [in Boston]." "Major delays going to be very, very widespread right through mid-week, so [it?s]not a good week to be traveling? across the Northeastern U.S."

Hurricane Tracker: Follow storm's path

?

Bill Karins, NBC Meteorologist?

"The greatest destruction is expected to occur Monday afternoon and evening as Sandy makes landfall near the New Jersey shore.?Serious and life threatening weather conditions are expected from Outer Banks to New England. The landfall window is from Long Island to Ocean City, Md., but the Jersey Shore covers 80 percent of that area so I'm expecting a New Jersey landfall. Areas of Northern Jersey, coastal New York City, Long Island and Connecticut are facing a major coastal flood threat from a possible top 5 all-time recorded storm surges."

"Lastly we are certain to be dealing with destructive weather conditions Monday and?Tuesday but Wednesday will be no walk in the park with the storm stalling near Philadelphia and then slowly drifting into New England during Halloween. This will keep periods of rain and gusty southerly winds (20-40 mph) over the hardest hit areas of New Jersey, New York City, Long Island and coastal Connecticut. All hands on deck power restoration efforts will likely not begin until Thursday."

"People in the high impact zone from Virginia to Southern New England have one day left to make preparations and plans before Sandy significantly impacts their lives. After the storm hits expect the cleanup and power outage restoration to continue right up through Election Day."

Poll: Germans accept nuke exit despite rising bill

(AP) ? A new poll finds that a large majority of Germans back the government's decision to phase out nuclear power and switch to renewable energies within a decade, despite rising electricity bills.

The poll for German news magazine Focus published Sunday found that 72 percent continue to support the country's energy switchover. Only 24 percent were opposed to the policy.

Germany's grid operators announced earlier this month that a surcharge on households' electricity prices financing the expansion of renewable energies will increase by 47 percent starting in January. A typical family of four will then have to pay about ?250 ($325) per year on top of their bill.

Polling agency Forsa surveyed 1,000 people this week. Focus did not provide the poll's margin of error.

DNP Switched On Sell the hardware, attract the apps

Microsoft has finally revealed details on the pricing for the all-singing, all-dancing Surface RT. True to Steve Ballmer's word, the Windows RT device is priced competitively with the iPad. It is, in fact, the same price as the entry-level, now not-so "new iPad" and with double the flash memory, an advantage that may change by the time the Surface ships.

The commercial shows off the device's signature hardware features -- the kickstand and touch keyboard cover -- and plays up the "click" they make when they attach to the Surface, which is of course similar to the "click" made when an Apple Smart Cover connects to an iPad. And in a bit of irony for a product that is more focused on tapping than the mouse clicks of the desktop mouse, its campaign slogan is "click in." (It also raises the question as to why people would be constantly attaching the sold-separately touch keyboard when it doubles as a cover, but it is a commercial after all.) While expensive relative to the price of the device, Microsoft's keyboard covers represent an extension of one of Apple's best-conceived iPad accessories (the Smart Cover) and far exceed one of Apple's worst (the original iPad keyboard dock).

Sandusky victim says he contemplated suicide

This undated image released by ABC shows ABC News' Chris Cuomo, left, with Aaron Fisher, 18, a victim of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky during an interview airing Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 on the news magazine show "20/20," at 10 p.m. EST on ABC. Sandusky wants his child sexual abuse charges tossed out "and/or" a new trial, saying the statute of limitations had run out for many of the 45 counts for which he was convicted in June. Currently in a county jail near State College, he is awaiting transfer to the state prison system to begin serving a 30- to 60-year sentence. (AP) ? The young man whose claims of abuse began the criminal investigation that put Jerry Sandusky in prison said he contemplated suicide because authorities took so long to prosecute the former Penn State assistant football coach.

Speaking out publicly by name for the first time, Aaron Fisher said in an interview airing Friday on ABC's "20/20" that the Pennsylvania attorney general's office had told him it needed more victims before Sandusky would be charged.

Fisher first reported the abuse in 2008. Sandusky was arrested last November. Fisher said the delay made him increasingly desperate.

"I thought maybe it would be easier to take myself out of the equation," he told ABC. "Let somebody else deal with it."

Fisher, now 18, testified as Victim 1 at Sandusky's trial. He, his mother and his psychologist have co-written a forthcoming book about his ordeal.

Fisher told jurors that Sandusky approached him through a summer camp for youth sponsored by The Second Mile, a charity for at-risk youth the former coach had founded.

Physical contact began with a hand on his leg in the car, Fisher said, and he began spending nights at the Sandusky home in State College, about 30 miles from his own home in Lock Haven. Kissing and back rubbing during those overnight visits progressed to oral sex. He said he tried to distance himself from Sandusky, to no avail.

Fisher was 15 when and his mother eventually reported the abuse to the school principal, who responded that "Jerry has a heart of gold and that he wouldn't do those type of things," Fisher told ABC, repeating his trial testimony.

"They tell me to go home and think about it," he told ABC.

School officials reported Sandusky to Clinton County Children and Youth Services, which began an investigation.

As Fisher spoke out, Sandusky launched his effort to overturn his conviction, contending there wasn't enough evidence against him and the trial wasn't fair. His lawyers filed a 31-page document Thursday that attacked rulings by the judge, the closing argument by the prosecution and the speed by which he went from arrest to trial.

Sandusky wants the charges tossed out "and/or" a new trial, saying the statute of limitations had run out for many of the 45 counts for which he was convicted in June. Currently in a county jail near State College, he is awaiting transfer to the state prison system to begin serving a 30- to 60-year sentence.

"The defendant submits the court's sentence was excessive and tantamount ... to a life sentence, which the defendant submits is in violation of his rights," his lawyers wrote.

A spokesman for the attorney general's office said the Sandusky filing was under review.

Fisher and seven other young men testified against him in June, describing a range of abuse they said included fondling and oral and anal sex when they were boys.

Sandusky didn't testify at his trial but has maintained his innocence in interviews and at sentencing.

Sandusky, 68, built a reputation as one of the country's premier defensive coaches while serving under head coach Joe Paterno, including two national championships. That image was shattered last year by his arrest.

The abuse scandal rocked Penn State, bringing down Paterno and the university's president and leading the NCAA, college sports' governing body, to levy unprecedented sanctions against the university's football program.

Two Penn State administrators were charged as a result of the investigation into the Sandusky allegations, accused of lying to the grand jury that investigated Sandusky and not reporting suspected child abuse to the proper authorities. Those two officials, athletic director Tim Curley, who is on administrative leave, and retired vice president Gary Schultz, await trial in January and maintain their innocence.

Former FBI Director Louis Freeh, hired by university trustees to conduct an investigation into the university's handling of abuse complaints against Sandusky, concluded that Paterno, who died in January, along with ousted President Graham Spanier, Curley and Schultz concealed a 2001 allegation against Sandusky to protect Penn State from bad publicity.

The late coach's family, as well as Spanier, Curley and Schultz, dispute Freeh's assertions.

Reddit's Internet 2012 bus campaigns for Web freedom

1 day

Entering this enormous bus???draped like an American flag in red, white, and blue???is like going through rooms of a house. First you enter the cramped living room, then a small kitchen, with a sink and fridge on your right and a full bath on your left. The back dining room?s furnished with cushioned seats that wrap around a large, fold-up table.

Most importantly, there?s Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets, because people are using their laptops on that table. This isn?t an ordinary vehicle. It?s the Internet 2012 Bus, driving nearly 2,000 miles across America?s heartland during election season.

In 2008, the same vehicle was used by John McCain for his presidential run, dubbed the ?Straight Talk Express.? Now, it's been given a social media update, with crowdsourced support from the likes of Craigslist founder Craig Newmark, whose name, along with seven other prominent donors, is displayed on the side of the bus. And it?s being?escorted by a?Rally Fighter, a real-life Batmobile that holds the distinction of being the?first car with Creative Commons-licensed designs openly available on the Internet.

They?re coming, perhaps to your hometown, to ensure you realize that the Internet is a political issue worth fighting for.

Behind the wheel, at least symbolically, is Alexis Ohanian, the tall, gregarious, and bright-eyed cofounder of Reddit, along with general manager Erik Martin. Their tremendously popular social news site, which hit 3.4 billion pageviews in August, has become a leader and rallying force in the fight for Internet rights. ??

Back in January, when Congress considered the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)???an anti-piracy bill that would allow sites to be censored if a visitor posted a link to illegal material???Ohanian personally warned members of Congress about the bill, proclaiming it would ?break the Internet.? And Reddit was the first major site to promise to go dark Jan. 19 for what would become a massive, successful ?strike? against SOPA, with thousands of sites following suit.

Noting the site?s reach and importance, President Obama even visited Reddit last month for its version of a digital town hall meeting, becoming the latest in a long line of politicians and celebrities to field questions and address concerns directly from users. With the Internet 2012 Bus, Ohanian and Martin are turning the tables, hitting the campaign trail in real life and bringing Reddit to your doorstep.

The spectre of SOPA looms large over the trip. The eight-day itinerary is packed with talks, panels, and tours of places with varied ties to the Internet and SOPA, which has become shorthand for any kind of bill that would censor or limit the Web.

?There are going to be more threats to the open Internet that are going to look far less obviously sinister than SOPA,? Ohanian told me as the bus geared up for its first stop???largely referring to lobbyists who represent companies that produce intellectual property, like the movie industry, who have influence in Washington and don?thave a greatrecord when it comes to making sure the Internet stays open and free.

?It?s going to be this sort of death by a thousand cuts.?

That, more or less, is the reason why Reddit has hit the road. Unlike the charge against SOPA???a grand stand that included blackouts of major websites and countless calls to representatives in Congress???this campaign aims to inform voters about what?s at stake before it?s too late, and to inspire them not just to fight against a looming threat, but to stand up for Internet rights routinely. ?

?It?s a lot easier to be against something than for something,? Ohanian explained, ?but that?s why we have to do this.??

Internet?rights ignored by Obama, Romney

Before the bus hit the road, TestPAC, a political action committee founded by redditors, tried to spark a movement to get Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to discuss Internet freedom at the first presidential debate at the University of Denver on Oct. 3. It didn?t work.

Small businesses, on the other hand, were mentioned 22 times between the two candidates. ?It?s small business that creates the jobs in America,? Romney said. Obama bragged that he ?lowered taxes for small businesses" 18 times.

That wasn?t lost on Ohanian and Martin, who, just six miles away, at a bar in downtown Denver called Katie Mullen?s, were hosting a debate-watching party for local redditors. The irony, of course, is that you can no longer separate small businesses and startups from the Internet or propose legislation for one without considering the other. That?s a fundamental issue that weighs heavily on the Internet 2012?s tour itinerary.

?Everywhere we?ll stop, we?ll get to have some cool conversations about the Internet, startups, and jobs,? Martin said the next morning, standing outside the bus before it first left Denver.

Indeed, the bus?s two dozen or so destinations are often small businesses, like Modular Robotics, a small factory that creates what?literally is the building blocks for simple robots. Likewise, Martin and Ohanian will pull over several times to host?panels on Internet startup companies and attend talks, most notably Iowa City?s Startup Weekend.

?For a lot of politicians, it?s really hard to grok that a company could start with one or two people, a little bit of money, like literally enough money to put a roof over their heads and food in their bellies, and within a few years could be valued at a billion dollars and be employing hundreds of people and changing the world,? said Ohanian, shown below speaking with activists, a few days later.

?That?s really hard to grok if you don?t understand the Internet startup economy.?If you had laws in place that are impediments to that, all of a sudden you?re stifling so much potential innovation.?

The?Internet and American values

Before going to the first of the trip?s panels, titled ?The Internet + Politics: Why You Should Give A S***,? the bus took a detour to the Foundry Group. A Boulder-based venture capital firm, Foundry invests early and often in the kinds of online startup companies Internet freedom is thought to promote. Ohanian and Martin wanted to meet with Ryan McIntyre, the company?s managing director.

After 11 folks from the bus piled into the Foundry Group?s sterile conference room, Martin asked McIntyre what the Internet had to do with American values.

?[The Web is] a fundamental mirror of core American traits,? he responded, his head covered with a mop of brown hair, giving him the look of an aging pop star.

?We?ve always had a frontier mentality, a pioneer mentality. Obviously we jealously guard our freedom of speech. You can?t argue against the Internet being a massive enabler of that.?

As he spoke, a documentary crew entered with quiet apologies, setting up across from McIntyre.

?See if you can get Erik, around the shoulder,? said one of the documentarians. Later, when McIntyre went long on an answer, that same documentarian interrupted him.

?Can you hold for one second while I switch batteries?? he asked. ?And can you restate that last part?? he grinned, then joked: ?I want this to be as produced as possible.?

McIntyre, though, was unfazed. Ohanian went on to ask about what the Founding Fathers would have thought about the Internet.

?Ben Franklin made one of his businesses as a newspaper,? McIntyre answered. ?He benefited from the printing press. You think of all the handbills passed around during the time of the American revolution; that was a?sneakernet version of the Internet back then. They recognized the power of disseminating information freely and efficiently?...?

?Pseudonymously,? Martin interjected.

?Pseudonymously. To cause a revolution.?

McIntyre paused, looking at the documentary crew before bringing his gaze back to Ohanian and Martin and finishing his point.

?You know, openness and individuality, and the anti-hierarchical aspect of the Internet, have a lot of parallels with what we believe our core cultural values are in America,? he said.

As McIntrye finished his last answer, Martin flashed him a smile and stood to say goodbye. ?We gotta run,? he said.

?Hopefully there?s something useable in that footage,? McIntyre said.

Reddit?co-founder: 'SOPA would have?crushed?startups'

On the bus ride back that night, Ohanian reminded me he?s a self-proclaimed ?startup guy.? He sold Reddit to Conde Nast in 2006 for somewhere?between $10 and $20 million and has since started several smaller Web-related companies. He?s an investor too, not just the founder of Reddit but someone who?s started and a number of other sites since then.

?I?ve got my entrepreneur hat; I?ve got my investor hat,? he said. ?But underneath them I?m just an American citizen,? he said, earnestly.

I mentioned how he often cited Reddit, the site that made him a millionaire, as a prime example of the kind of site that SOPA could have shuttered immediately.

?That was obviously an example that hit home with me,? Ohanian laughed, pausing momentarily and becoming a little more introspective.

?SOPA would have crushed startups,? he continued. ?They would have had to sign on all kinds of legal costs and had lawyers at the ready. More frightening is that so many bright people who would have started the next Facebook or the next Reddit wouldn?t. They?d say, ?Oh that?s not a business I want to get into. I don?t want to invest all that time and energy and hard work into being an entrepreneur. I?m just gonna get a job somewhere else, do some other thing.?

?And that?s the thing that really terrifies me. The things that couldn?t happen if the values of Internet freedom?weren?t nurtured. I just don?t want to see any of those get wasted.?

Tips To Effectively Market Your Business Online | Eric Chua : Life ...

The world of Website marketing is growing exponentially. From online newsletters to static websites, it is so simple to use the Internet to market your product. Read this article for some suggestions on how to leverage the multitude of electronic communication channels in your marketing strategy.

Present your products as an efficient and simple solution to a problem your audience can relate to. Simplicity will always win out over complexity. So, cater to the basic human desire for easy over hard by using phrases that show just how easy it is to use your product or service. This is an easy way to boost your business.

Ensure that information that is relevant to your customers is included on your website. A simple digital billboard featuring your hours of operation, address and toll free number is simply not going to garner you much business. Build up your website with useful content, interesting reviews and other things that shows your visitors that you know what you are doing and that you are not just a fly by night presence.

TIP! A lot of folks might not think your advertisments are truthful. The fact is that most folks aren?t buying the stuff they read in advertisements, so don?t turn them off by simply talking big.

Give your customers the chance to sign up to your Ezine. This effective marketing tool is especially potent if you create an interesting Ezine that promotes a strong relationship with subscribers. Add a personal touch by including photos of yourself, your family or your employees. Don?t be afraid to share funny or interesting stories from your personal life with your readers. Arouse their curiosity with an interesting subject line in the Ezine, such as the easiest or fastest way to achieve a specific goal.

Having a secure ordering system is imperative. Services such as Paypal allow you to use a payment system on your site that offers safe monetary transactions. Before customers send their personal payment information to you, have them create a secure, password-protected account.

Always make sure you have a slogan and a logo for your business, even if you?re just running a small, Internet based firm. These tools are going to assist with building brand recognition. A potential customer can remember a slogan for a while. When a customer is ready to buy a product, he might remember your slogan even if he doesn?t remember the name of your business. In the age of the internet, that?s not a big problem.

TIP! Try including a survey or poll to measure how a reader feel about content on your site. Not only will this help you adjust the type of content that you include, it will also make your users feel like you care about their opinions.

Try your hand at mobile marketing. You can give your site visitors the opportunity to get text alerts when a special sale is going on or when a new product is launched. This is a newer method of advertising that will give you assistance in your online marketing campaign.

Make use of the websites that list freebies and giveaways by listing what you are offering on these sites. For instance, if you?re giving away an e-zine, you should submit this to as many specific e-zine directories as you can find. There are several directories for e-books, dictionaries, and other helpful materials.

The key to a successful Internet marketing strategy is to write unique quality content. This is even more important if your business sells the same goods as many other sites, especially if you all use identical product descriptions from the manufacturer. Providing your own unique descriptions of products and using rich, descripyive adjectives will help your site stand out and be recognizable.

TIP! Be sure to incorporate the use of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites in your Internet marketing strategy. Since they provide a quick and simple way to send promotions or updated site information, social media sites are an effective way to stay in touch with potential customers.

Run a contest or special promotion to generate site traffic. You may offer a day or more sale on a $1 e-book. When people see this limited time deal, they will likely buy and stick around your site. Many times these visitors will leave not only with their promotional item, but with a variety of the other products you sell as well.

A good technique to use with your Online marketing is to offer a discount for customers who make a purchase over a specified amount. For instance, you could extend to your customers a ten percent off discount on all purchases of $200 or more. This is a good way to get your customers to buy more of your products.

Internet promotion should not be very complicated but rather strive to make it simple. Try one or more of the tips provided in this article to improve your online presence and market your business to your targeted customer base quickly and efficiently. For customers who live in the electronic age, you can use Internet marketing to increase your bottom line

Video: Aggressive Biden on the attack in Ryan debate

>> right there in the second row of the yankee game in the bronx. i went to see the yankee game, but i tivoed this and watched it this morning. it was different.

>> well, in your event there was a clear cut winner and loser. in this debate, unclear. it was definitely the only chance for a face-to-face showdown during this election for joe biden and paul ryan . they did their best to really make it count.

>> they clashed on a wide range of topics, everything from the economy, to iran, even some social issues, and in stark contrast to the first presidential debate , this one was animated. it was fast-paced, full of cutting attacks. let's get right to nbc's political director and chief white house correspondent chuck todd . he is at the debate hall in danville, kentucky. chuck, good morning.

>> reporter: well, good morning, matt. it was a tale of two different debate strategies really. for joe biden it was about calming down supporters upset with president obama 's performance last week. he went with the kitchen sink approach. paul ryan , he went with the do no harm mantra.

>> when we look weak, our adversary are much more willing to test us. they are more brazen in their attacks and our allies are --

>> that's all a bunch of malarkey.

>> reporter: joe biden played the role of attack dog , gesturing, interrupting, laughing, make is his presence felt when paul ryan was speaking.

>> under a romney administration, we will have credibility on this issue.

>> vice president biden ?

>> incredible.

>> thank heavens we have these sanctions in place. it's in spite of their on sgligs oh, god.

>> it's been discredited by six other studies. over 100 criminal investigations that have been launched in just how the stimulus spending has been spent.

>> martha, look.

>> reporter: at one point biden seemed to hold back from cursing. this is a bunch of stuff. here's the deal.

>> what does that mean, a bunch of stuff?

>> here's the deal.

>> it's irish.

>> we irish call it malarkey.

>> reporter: and while ryan largely avoided to take the bait he did push back on biden a few times.

>> mr. vice president, i know you're under a lot of duress to make up for lost ground, but i think people will be better served if we don't keep interrupting each other.

>> reporter: biden deployed many attacks that president obama failed to use against romney last week, like the infamous 47% remark.

>> it shouldn't be surprising for a guy who says 47% of the american people are unwilling to take responsibility for their own lives.

>> mr. romney is a good man. he cares about 100% of americans in this country, and with respect to that quote, i think the vice president very well knows that sometimes the words don't come out of your mouth the right way. [ laughter ]

>> but i always say what i mean. and so does romney .

>> we want everybody to succeed.

>> defensing stimulus, biden stayed aggressive.

>> you did ask for stimulus money.

>> sure he did.

>> on two occasions we advocated for constituents who were applying for grants. that's what we do. we do that for all constituents.

>> i love that. i love that. this is such a bad program, and he writes me a letter saying -- writes the department of energy a left saying the reason we need this stimulus it will create growth and jobs. his words. and now he's sitting here looking at me.

>> reporter: and he went after ryan 's stance on abortion.

>> my friend says that he -- well, i guess he accepts governor romney 's position now because in the past he has argued that there was -- there's rape and forcible rape .

>> reporter: this debate featured a heavy dose of foreign policy . biden struggled to explain why the white house had so many explanations regarding the terrorist attack in benghazi.

>> we said exactly what the intelligence community told us, that they knew. that was the assessment, and as the intelligence community changed their view, they made it clear they changed this view.

>> this is becoming more troubling by the day. they first blamed the youtube video . now they are trying to blame the romry/ ryan ticket for making this an issue.

>> reporter: many tense moments, including one when biden came close to channeling lloyd bentsen 's famous attack on dan quayle .

>> senator, you're no jack kennedy .

>> you can cut tax rates by 20%.

>> not mathematically possible.

>> it is mathematically possible. it's been done before. it's precisely what we're prosing.

>> never been done before.

>> it's been done a couple of times actual.

>> i never been done.

>> jack kennedy lowered tax rates and increased growth. ronald reagan --

>> now you're jack kennedy .

>> reporter: well, it's a busy day for three of the four guys on the ticket here. you've got mitt romney who starts his day in north carolina , hits virginia and meets up though with paul ryan in the evening for a joint event in ohio. joe biden , he's going to paul ryan 's home state in wisconsin. president obama actually has sort of a down day at the white house , though he does have dinner with a bunch of campaign supporters. matt?

>> all right, chuck todd , thank

TGIS it's Family Time | New Home Sweet Home

Time is flying so fast ever since I started working as a Teacher. It?s like only yesterday when I started and now it?s almost three months without noticing it! It?s always a good thing when you love what you?re doing right? You are earning money and at the same time, you are enjoying everyday of it. But even if I love my job so much and enjoys being a working mom, I still wanted more spare time to spend for my family. Good thing we don?t have work during ?Saturday and Sunday so at least, there?s two days for us to have some bonding time.

Thank God it?s Saturday! It?s time to be with my kids and my husband. We are planning to go to an?arcade again and play with the kids but we decided to just stay at home today and play with our PS3 since we are going to attend a birthday party at Chuck e Cheese tomorrow anyway.

Playing in an arcade was so much fun for my kids and the daddy, they love playing different games such as driving, video games, and more while me loves to play bingo, wheel of fortune and deal or no deal! Sometimes this kind of game is addicting because it?s so much fun like the real?bingo?at?Ladbrokes.com. But if you know how to control yourself like I do, there?s gonna be no problem. Try it if you haven?t tried yet coz it?s really an entertaining game.

Anyway, my kids are still having fun playing with our PS3 while I am about to finish writing this post. Hopefully they will get tired soon and sleep early for tomorrow?s party.

Darkness & Light Exhibit Enlists Art to Relieve Africa Famine

We Can Be Heroes Warner Bros. Entertainment Time Warner social responsibility Justice League Horn of Africa famine DC Entertainment Darkness & Light Africa relief Africa famine Africa drought

Support for the visual arts has been a hallmark of corporate social responsibility in America for more than a century, long before the advent of today?s full blown CSR movement. First came the stately classical art museums, and then artwork broke through the walls into public spaces. New aspects of enrichment are constantly appearing on the horizon, and a new traveling exhibit called ?Darkness & Light? is a case in point.

Enlisted in the cause of raising public awareness about ongoing famine, drought and violence in the Horn of Africa, Darkness & Light adds a new dimension of hope, empowerment and spirit to the somber images of need that relief campaigns have long relied upon. In doing so, the exhibit offers up some important lessons for companies that aim to add art to their CSR profile.

?We Can Be Heroes? for global neighbors in need

Darkness & Light (the full title is Darkness & Light: Art Inspired by Heroes & Villains, Hope & Heroism) is a new phase in a broader campaign for Horn of Africa relief called We Can Be Heroes. Launched last winter, the campaign supports Save the Children, International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps.

We Can Be Heroes is a partnership between Time Warner?s DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Entertainment, featuring the entire membership of DC Comics? Justice League. With a super-heroic cast of characters including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, the idea was to harness the unique power of storytelling and the cross-generational appeal of comic book heroes to cut through the media clutter and focus attention on the dire straits of 13 million people in the Horn of Africa who are facing drought, famine and the threat of violence.

Gary Shaye, Senior Director of Humanitarian Operations for Save the Children, spoke with Triple Pundit at the exhibit and explained that the iconic pop culture heroes are helping to ?bring attention to issues that most people don?t know about.? While horrific events such as earthquakes and floods often compel donors to come forward with short-term assistance, regions like the Horn of Africa face ongoing challenges that require a long-term commitment.

A key thrust of the campaign is to replace the one-way street of donor-to-recipient aid with a more holistic vision in which relief donors recognize that they can act like their fictional heroes by assisting fellow human beings in need, and they can receive inspiration from the real-life heroism of ordinary people who face extraordinary threats.

Darkness & Light

Triple Pundit had a chance to view Darkness & Light earlier this week when it came to a second-floor lobby in the upscale shopping mall, the Time Warner Center, in midtown Manhattan.

The first thing to note is that art does not have to be large to pack a powerful punch. This relatively small exhibit dominated the space and easily attracted the attention of passers-by, though it was ringed by numerous distractions including a wall of giant-sized H&M photographs and the loud, bubbly displays in the windows of a C-Wonder store.

The exhibit also demonstrates the ability of art to add new layers of experience to a familiar product. In the case of Darkness & Light, the ?product? is itself artwork in the form of comic book art. By including the unique insights of other artists, the mixed-media exhibit enabled viewers to enjoy the discovery of new elements of courage, strength, compassion and wisdom in their favorite heroes.

Engaging casual passers-by is a unique challenge for art in public spaces, and it is one that Darkness & Light meets partly by including elements of humor. Despite the daunting situation in the Horn of Africa, some of the images are unexpectedly whimsical. One example is a tiny painting of a tiny Batman standing by himself on a vast stretch of empty beach, alone with his thoughts, flying a kite. This subtle use of humor is one of the most compelling features of the exhibit and it is a reminder that art is often at its most powerful when it touches human nature at the core.

In the context of humanitarian relief, the ability of Darkness & Light to elicit a smile engages people immediately. It helps to spark their curiosity, pulling them deeper into the exhibit, giving them the courage to accept the more somber images, and the compassion to recognize a part of themselves in the struggles of people who stare down danger every day.

Samsung Officially Debuts The Galaxy S III Mini: 4? Mid-Range Jelly Bean In A Smaller Package

Screen Shot 2012-10-11 at 12.11.24 PMThe Samsung Galaxy S III is the next big thing, and as Samsung's marketing squad won't let us forget, it's already here. But another "big thing" in a decidedly smaller package is making its way to center stage as we speak.

Samsung GT-i9260 Galaxy Premier revealed in leaked image

Android Central

And no, it's not a Nexus

As Samsung prepares to launch the Galaxy S3 Mini in Germany today, we have news of another unannounced handset, the Galaxy Premier. The phone, also known by its model number GT-i9260, was previously rumored to be a re-vamped Galaxy Nexus, owing to its hardware similarities, and the closeness of its model number to the Nexus's GT-i9250. But as you can see from the leaked image above, obtained by German site MobileGeeks, it is in fact a mid-range TouchWiz device, just as we'd speculated on the Android Central forums.

The Galaxy Premier's hardware specs aren't a million miles away from the Galaxy Nexus, though. Inside there's a 4.65-inch HD SuperAMOLED display, a 1.5GHzdual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera and 8 or 16GB of internal storage, backed up by a microSD card slot. On the software side, it's running the (almost) latest Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean alongside Samsung's TouchWiz Nature UX.

As with any unannounced device, take this leaked info with a pinch of salt until we see something official. Nevertheless, it seems the mystery of the GT-i9260 is well and truly solved at this point.

In meningitis scare, charges firm misled U.S. regulators

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - The deadly meningitis outbreak that has claimed a dozen lives is prompting calls for increased oversight of the nation's custom-made pharmaceutical industry, amid charges that the company at the center of the scare may have misled U.S. regulators.

On Wednesday, Idaho became the 11th state to report a case of the rare illness, which has been linked to tainted steroids produced by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, whose role in the outbreak has come under criticism, said it was planning an afternoon media briefing on Thursday.

In all, 138 people have contracted meningitis as a result of the now-recalled drugs, according to the latest tally from the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and officials in 11 states where the outbreak has spread. The case in Idaho is the first discovered in the western United States.

Lawmakers have come under pressure to close what critics see as a loophole in oversight that left the New England Compounding Company (NECC), the Massachusetts pharmacy linked to the tainted steroids, largely exempt from federal regulation.

The FDA regulates only the ingredients and their suppliers, not the little-known corner of the drug world known as "compounding," which is subject to a patchwork of state oversight.

State and federal officials are now investigating NECC, which distributed thousands of vials of a contaminated steroid made at a shabby brick complex next to a waste and recycling operation in a western suburb of Boston.

The pharmacies are owned by Gregory Conigliaro, an engineer, and his brother-in-law, Barry Cadden, a pharmacist who was in charge of pharmacy operations at NECC. The waste and recycling facility is another of Conigliaro's business interests.

Compounding pharmacies such as NECC are permitted to make medications based on specific prescriptions for individual patients.

State and federal regulators are investigating why NECC shipped thousands of vials of preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate steroid to healthcare facilities in multiple states.

"It does seem like the agencies, both at the state and the federal level, may have been misled by some of the information we were given," Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick told reporters on Wednesday.

The number of cases has grown rapidly as health practitioners contacted about 13,000 people who received injections from a potentially tainted supply of steroid medication shipped to 23 states.

In five states - Tennessee, Michigan, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida - the outbreak has claimed lives, with the latest victim a 70-year-old man in Florida.

Thousands of people received the injections to relieve back pain and other complaints and are at risk of infection.

Meningitis is an infection of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms include headache, fever and nausea. Fungal meningitis, unlike viral and bacterial meningitis, is not contagious.

Moscow court frees 1 of 3 Pussy Riot members

MOSCOW (AP) ? One jailed member of the punk band Pussy Riot unexpectedly walked free from a Moscow courtroom, but the other two now head toward a harsh punishment for their irreverent protest against President Vladimir Putin: a penal colony.

The split ruling by the appeals court Wednesday added further controversy to a case that has been seized upon in the West as a symbol of Putin's intensifying crackdown on dissent.

All three women were convicted in August of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred and sentenced to two years in prison. They argued in court on Wednesday that their impromptu performance inside Moscow's main cathedral in February was political in nature and not an attack on religion.

The Moscow City Court ruled that Yekaterina Samutsevich's sentence should be suspended because she was thrown out of the cathedral by guards before she could remove her guitar from its case and thus did not take part in the performance.

If the Kremlin's plan was to create a rift in the trio by letting just one band member go, it didn't seem to work.

The two other defendants squealed with joy and hugged Samutsevich before she was led from the courtroom to be mobbed by friends and journalists waiting outside on the street.

Dressed in neon-colored dresses and tights, with homemade balaclavas on their heads, the band members performed a "punk prayer" asking the Virgin Mary to save Russia from Putin as he headed into a March election that would hand him a third term.

"If we unintentionally offended any believers with our actions, we express our apologies," said Samutsevich, who along with Maria Alekhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova spoke in court Wednesday from inside a glass cage known colloquially as the "aquarium."

Both the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church would like to see an end to a case that has caused international outrage, but they would hate to be seen as caving to pressure. As much as anything, the release of Samutsevich is viewed as a reward for her decision this month to drop defense lawyers who had antagonized the Kremlin with their politicized statements.

"The idea of the protest was political, not religious," Samutsevich said. "In this and in previous protests we acted against the current government of the president, and against the Russian Orthodox Church as an institution of the Russian government, against the political comments of the Russian patriarch. Exactly because of this I don't consider that I committed a crime."

Rights groups were frustrated by the appeals court decision.

"To see these two women sent to a Russian penal colony for the crime of singing a song undercuts any claim that Putin and the Russian government have to democracy and freedom of expression," Suzanne Nossel, executive director of Amnesty International USA, said Wednesday in a telephone interview from Washington.

"It's a very cold climate for human rights in Russia right now," Nossel said.

Putin recently said the two-year sentences were justified because "it is impermissible to undermine our moral foundations, moral values, to try to destroy the country." Defense lawyers said his remarks amounted to pressure on the appeals court.

The appeal was postponed from Oct. 1 after Samutsevich fired her lawyers, a move prosecutors criticized at the time as a delaying tactic. Her father said the appointment of the new lawyer was decisive in securing the suspended sentence.

"This is a great happiness to me," Stanislav Samutsevich said. "But I feel sorry for other girls. They did not deserve such cruel punishment."

His daughter, a computer programmer and artist, said she would campaign for the release of the other Pussy Riot members.

"Of course, I will, naturally. They are my friends and companions in arms," Samutsevich, who at 30 is the oldest of the three, told journalists outside the courtroom. "As to the decision, I don't know why, you need to ask the court. I think this was thanks to the defense's ironclad arguments."

Her new lawyer, Irina Khrunova, said the reason for Samutsevich's release was clear: "She did not participate in the actions the court found constituted hooliganism."

Members of the original defense team, who have been outspoken in their fierce criticism of the Kremlin, said they suspected political maneuverings. "We are dealing with a political game that could be about splitting Pussy Riot," defense lawyer Mark Feygin said.

Pavel Chikov, who like Khrunova is a member of an association of lawyers known for their work on rights cases, said the defense appeared to have two choices ? either create a scandal and accept a harsh verdict, or work for the lightest punishment. "The girls chose the former," he wrote on Twitter.

The Russian Orthodox Church had said the appeals court should show leniency if the three women repented. But the defendants said Wednesday that they could not repent because they harbored no religious hatred and had committed no crime. Their protest, they said, was against Putin and the church hierarchy for openly supporting his rule.

Patriarch Kirill has expressed strong support for Putin, praising his leadership as "God's miracle." He described the punk performance as part of an assault by "enemy forces" on the church.

The judge repeatedly interrupted the defendants when their statements turned to politics, but they persisted in speaking their minds.

"We will not be silent. And even if we are in Mordovia or Siberia (regions where prisoners in Russia are often sent to serve out their terms) we won't be silent," Alekhina said.

Defense attorney Nikolai Polozov said the two women would receive copies of their sentences within two weeks and then transported to a penal colony; the location was as yet unknown. Once convicted, all Russian prisoners serve time in penal colonies.

A lawyer representing cathedral staff, Alexei Taratukhin, urged the court to uphold the verdict because the women's actions "had nothing to do with politics, democracy or freedom."

Five members of Pussy Riot entered the vast and nearly empty Christ the Savior Cathedral on Feb. 21. After Samutsevich and her guitar were bundled out, only four of them were left to dance on the pulpit and shout out the words to their song before they too were ousted by security guards.

The band members were wearing their trademark balaclavas, which may have made it more difficult for police to identify them. The three women were arrested in March, and the group said the two others have since fled the country.

Pussy Riot later produced a video that included footage of a previous performance in a smaller church and had a dubbed soundtrack. This video, which became an Internet hit, was what most angered Russian Orthodox believers.

Tolokonnikova appealed to Russians for understanding:

"I don't consider myself guilty. But again I ask all those who are listening to me for the last time: I don't want people to be angry at me: Yes, I'm going to prison, but I don't want anyone to think that there is any hatred in me."

The court refused the defense lawyers' request to take into consideration that Tolokonnikova and Alekhina both have a young child.
